Why I Chose to Be a Strategic Communication Major
If you had asked me a couple years ago what I wanted to do, I would’ve said Film Production without hesitation. I loved the idea of telling stories, creating visuals that move people, and working in a field where creativity fuels everything. But as I progressed in my college journey, something shifted.
It wasn’t that I stopped loving film—it’s still a huge part of who I am. But I started thinking about my future, not just in terms of passion, but also potential. I wanted to find a career that would allow me to flex my creative muscles, while also giving me the chance to build something stable and successful.
That’s when I found Strategic Communication.
The Creative Spark, Reimagined
Switching majors wasn’t an easy decision. I spent a lot of time wondering if I was giving up on a dream. But the more I learned about Strategic Communication—about how brands tell their stories, how social media shapes perception, how marketing and messaging can change the way people see the world—I realized something important:
This field isn’t about losing creativity. It’s about redirecting it.
Strategic Communication lets me tap into that same creative energy I once poured into film. Whether it’s building a social media campaign, designing brand messaging, or figuring out the perfect way to connect with an audience—there’s real artistry in that. And there’s strategy, too. It’s the best of both worlds.
Social Media & Marketing: My New Creative Canvas
I’ve always loved connecting with people, and in today’s world, social media is one of the most powerful tools to do that. I started to imagine myself not just as a content consumer, but as a creator—someone behind the scenes crafting the message, designing the experience, and making brands feel human.
Marketing management and social media management feel like a natural next step. They’re creative, dynamic, and ever-changing—exactly the kind of environment where I thrive. I get to use what I learned in film—visual storytelling, audience engagement, and emotion—and apply it in a way that drives real results.
A Major That Matches My Goals
Strategic Communication is giving me the skills to grow in a career that’s meaningful and exciting. It’s not just about writing press releases or analyzing market data—it’s about understanding people, trends, and the power of connection. It’s about being both creative and strategic. It’s about building something that lasts.
And most importantly, it’s about finding a path that feels true to me.
Final Thoughts
Changing majors wasn’t giving up—it was leveling up. It was choosing a future that blends creativity with opportunity, vision with versatility.
I’m proud to be a Strategic Communication major. It’s where my passion and my purpose finally met.
